Gateway was launched in 1991 initially to provide Electronic Document Management (EDM) seminars. In the early days of EDM technology there was a tremendous interest in going paperless, however the market was filled with point solutions and niche players. Gateway saw this as an opportunity to take our EDM research and package it into a comprehensive course that was well received by engineering, manufacturing and IT professionals.
By 1993 large energy companies were seeking consulting expertise to lead very large document capture and vaulting projects. Gateway began offering on-site consulting services to assist with the development of project scope, requirements and system design specifications. There was a lot of work conducted to evaluate vendors and to assist teams with selecting a technology platform. A key milestone was a project conducted for a large refinery to develop an EDM vault for OSHA PSM regulatory compliance. By 1997 Gateway had expanded its expertise and staffing to provide full EDM system configuration and support. Dozens of major projects were conducted, including a large refinery project that included: drawing capture and vaulting, Management of Change (MOC), Equipment Data Books, Procedures, Project folders and Medical records.
Microsoft entered the electronic document management market in 2003, and by 2007 Gateway began implementing SharePoint solutions, including a massive capital projects management system and document vaulting solution for a large US-based refinery. In 2008 Gateway ported our MOC application to SharePoint for projects with several clients. The SharePoint MOC application proved to be very popular, and became a Gateway licensed software product with 24/7 support and software maintenance.
Gateway now offers an entire suite of advanced Microsoft SharePoint configurations under the FACILEX® brand to automate the business processes in highly regulated industries. These applications provide a comprehensive framework for all of the elements needed to identify and address safety across a facility’s entire lifecycle, including:
- Display a compliance dashboard, metrics and reports
- Manage risk identification, ranking and aggregation
- Manage documentation and records
- Management of Change (MOC)
- Incident Reporting and Investigation
- Audit and Evaluation
- Corrective Action and Continuous Improvement
